One of Dutchess County's oldest, privately owned horse farms, JL Performance Horses is located in beautiful Union Vale, NY. The farm recently underwent an almost decade long, modernizing design for World-class horse training, riding and stabling. The farm continues to provide community-based, comprehensive equine education programs and welcomes children, adults, families, Scouts, schools and other groups to the wonderful world of horses. JL Performance Horses continues to produce quality, all-around horses for both competition and recreational riding purposes and developing capable, knowledgeable horse people through hands-on equine experiences.
JL Performance Horses is a NYS Certified Women Owned Agricultural Small Business, an active member of the DCRCOC, AQHA, APHA & USEF.
For more than half a century, JL Performance Horses has been earning National and local accolades and awards in English, Western & Driving events at Open, USEF and breed shows (AQHA, APHA, PtHA, AMHA, AMHR). The farm has received meritorious recognition for stable management, equine health care and training. Our instructors and trainers are lifelong horse people who are accomplished equestrians themselves. They have a proven professional track record and have successfully completed the US SafeSport, other safety & professional coursework and pass full background checks. Our team includes Certified Horsemanship instructors, carded horse show judges, equine veterinarians, veterinary assistants, a master farrier and authentic cowboys/cowgirls. Yes! Running a horse farm is an every day job. No matter the weather or world situation, the horses and ponies that call JL Performance Horses 'home' MUST BE properly taken care of multiple times a day to prevent such problems as 'Colic'. Despite their size, horses and ponies can be delicate creatures. A mere temperature change can cause a horse to 'colic'. Colic is the number 1 killer of horses.
The horses/ponies depend on humans to provide them good care including wellness checks, grooming, exercising and feeding. If you are not able to be present at your timeslot, we require 24-hour advanced notification or you will be billed.
In extreme weather cases, which may make travel dangerous, farm closings and cancelations are posted on the farm's FB page. If you are unsure, please call 845-260-0962. We are happy to answer your questions.

Most kids don't own Western boots or paddock boots. We have a few pairs to loan and a few pairs on consignment. This type of footwear is best for working with and caring for horses/ponies.
